Walter is not limited to working with wood. He applies his woodworking knowledge to metal too. The Statler Brothers monument in Staunton, Virginia, are stools made of brass legs and seats on a lathe, and fitted together with mortise and tenon joints. Four days of work produced 500 pounds of brass shavings.

For a hobby, Walter carves silhouettes into ostrich eggs.
